Research and scholarship can become more challenging to sustain during mid-career, particularly as faculty balance leadership responsibilities, service commitments, evolving priorities, and changing professional goals. Some faculty may feel stalled in their research productivity, while others may seek opportunities to shift or expand their scholarly direction.
Research & Scholarship at Mid-Career: Reboot, Reset, Reimagine is an Academic Impressions course designed to help mid-career faculty intentionally rethink and strengthen their research trajectory. Through short video lessons and guided planning exercises, participants explore strategies for reassessing current scholarly work and building a research plan aligned with their goals, interests, and career stage.
The course introduces three potential pathways for mid-career scholarship:
- Reboot – strengthening and leveling up an existing research agenda
- Reset – shifting direction or expanding into new areas of scholarship
- Reimagine – exploring the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) and alternative scholarly pathways
Participants also reflect on institutional expectations, long-term career goals, and personal motivations while developing practical strategies to move forward with greater clarity and intention. The course includes video instruction, a workbook, and structured planning exercises to support implementation.
This resource is particularly valuable for tenured, career-track, and mid-career faculty seeking renewed focus, stronger scholarly momentum, or a more intentional research direction.
