The Advanced Supervision Certificate Program from Academic Impressions is a three-month, cohort-based professional development experience designed for supervisors who have already completed foundational supervisory training. Built specifically for higher education contexts, this program deepens supervisory expertise through a combination of asynchronous coursework, peer community engagement, and reflective practice.
Participants explore advanced supervisory topics including crafting a personal leadership philosophy, practicing self-care as a supervisor, applying a coaching-centered approach to staff development, setting high expectations with high support, building accountability within diverse teams, and effectively supporting neurodiverse employees. Each asynchronous course includes practical tools, scripts, self-assessment activities, and guided reflections designed to help supervisors apply concepts directly to their academic teams.
Cohort members may also join optional live “coffee chats” to discuss supervisory challenges, share insights across roles and departments, and build a broader professional network. At the end of the program, faculty complete a short reflection assignment demonstrating how they have incorporated the learning into their supervisory practice. Upon completion, participants earn a digital badge that can be shared as part of their professional portfolio.
This certificate is especially valuable for faculty and academic leaders who supervise staff coordinators, research teams, labs, administrative personnel, or student workers, and who are seeking to strengthen accountability, team engagement, coaching skills, and inclusive supervisory practices.
