Leading diverse teams requires more than strong communication skills—it also requires the ability to listen actively, engage thoughtfully across differences, and foster workplace environments where people feel respected and included. Leaders often benefit from reflecting on how personal experiences, assumptions, and communication habits shape interactions with others.

Essential Practices for Leaders Communicating Across Difference is an Academic Impressions course designed to help leaders strengthen culturally responsive communication practices and build more inclusive, collaborative workplace environments. Through guided reflection, experiential learning, and practical activities, participants explore how identity, perspective, and lived experiences influence dialogue and team dynamics.

Participants explore topics including:

  • Reflecting on personal identities and how they shape communication and leadership practices
  • Understanding the difference between debate and dialogue in professional settings
  • Practicing active listening, empathy, and suspending judgment in conversations across differences
  • Strengthening communication practices that foster inclusion, belonging, and respect
  • Developing culturally responsive leadership approaches to better support diverse teams and workplace environments
  • Navigating discomfort, assumptions, and workplace differences more intentionally and constructively
