Johns Hopkins faculty, teaching assistants, and academic staff are invited to attend the BSPH Center for Teaching and Learning’s annual Picnic PD (Professional Development) Workshop Series, a summer professional development program featuring practical workshops on effective teaching, learning, course development, and technology. Each year, CTL instructional designers develop a unifying theme that connects the series, while still ensuring that every workshop stands on its own. Participants are free to attend sessions based on their interests, though attendees are encouraged to participate in as many workshops as possible to fully benefit from the experience. Workshops are held virtually over Zoom on Tuesdays in July at 12:00 PM ET and include interactive, practical learning opportunities and open discussion. Recordings are also made available after the sessions.
The 2026 theme, “The Human Touch: Teaching in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” explores how generative AI can support teaching and learning without replacing the humanity at the center of education. In a time when AI is reshaping how knowledge is created, shared, and applied, educators are invited to explore how technology can enhance intellectual curiosity, empathy, creativity, and rigor while still preserving meaningful human-centered learning experiences. The series emphasizes thoughtful and pedagogically informed adoption of AI rather than novelty or hype, helping faculty determine when, why, and how to integrate AI into teaching and learning.
To explore individual workshop sessions, learn more about the series, and register, participants are encouraged to visit the Picnic PD website. Zoom registration is required for participation.
