The BSPH Center for Teaching and Learning’s annual Picnic PD Workshop Series provides professional development opportunities for Johns Hopkins faculty, teaching assistants, and academic staff focused on effective teaching, course development, learning design, and instructional technology.
The 2026 theme, The Human Touch: Teaching in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, explores how generative AI can support teaching and learning while preserving the human elements of curiosity, empathy, creativity, and critical thinking that remain central to education. The series encourages faculty to make thoughtful, pedagogically informed decisions about when and how AI should be integrated into learning environments.
Workshops are delivered virtually over Zoom and combine practical instruction with interactive discussion. Topics include AI-supported learning strategies, human-centered feedback practices, prompt design, student engagement, and faculty perspectives on teaching with AI. Sessions are designed as standalone workshops, allowing participants to attend based on their interests and schedules. Recordings are also made available through the CTL On-Demand Workshop Videos page.
The 2026 series includes:
- Human First: Applying the AI Sandwich Framework in Public Health Teaching
- HopGPT as a Concierge Service to Promote and Support Learners’ Agency in Building Knowledge
- The Human-Heart of the Feedback Process in the World of AI
- The Human Touch: Teaching in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (Special Guest Panel)
