Leading change in higher education increasingly requires flexibility, inclusion, and the ability to navigate differing perspectives. Change is no longer an occasional initiative but an ongoing process that affects individuals and teams differently. Inclusive leaders must think intentionally about whose voices are heard, how decisions are shaped, and how disagreement can strengthen outcomes.
Managing Change as an Inclusive Leader is an Academic Impressions course designed to help leaders approach organizational and institutional change through a more inclusive lens. Through practical discussion and reflection, participants explore how leadership, power, communication, and disagreement influence the success of change efforts.
Participants explore topics including:
- Moving beyond traditional approaches to change management in higher education
- Understanding how positionality, leadership, and power influence change processes
- Reflecting on whose perspectives are included, heard, or unintentionally overlooked during change efforts
- Developing strategies to invite and normalize disagreement and differing viewpoints
- Navigating conflict, silence, and resistance more productively throughout organizational change
- Building inclusive leadership practices that strengthen collaboration and decision-making during periods of transition
The course emphasizes practical strategies for leading change in ways that encourage participation, curiosity, and thoughtful engagement across diverse perspectives, helping leaders foster more inclusive and effective outcomes.
This resource is especially valuable for faculty leaders, department chairs, supervisors, administrators, and professionals involved in organizational leadership, team management, and institutional change.
