Power and Influence in Organizations is an in-person executive education course offered by the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School that explores how power operates within organizations and how leaders can use influence ethically and effectively. Grounded in research-based principles of social interaction and psychology, the course helps participants recognize how power is acquired, exercised, and shared in organizational settings.

Through questionnaires, role-play exercises, mini-cases, and group activities, participants develop greater self-awareness of their own influence styles and motivations. The course emphasizes the distinction between exercising “power with others” versus “power over others,” highlighting approaches that foster collaboration, credibility, and empowerment while avoiding common pitfalls associated with authority and corruption. Participants leave with practical tools to navigate organizational dynamics and strengthen their leadership impact.
